Meet Miles

Everyone around here has accepted the fact that I'm going to keep bringing home strange dogs. After Brownie was adopted, I went to West Valley Animal Shelter to pick up Miles, a six-year-old chocolate Lab who was picked up as a stray in Salt Lake. It's sad how big of a toll these shelters take on dogs; Miles is about ten pounds under weight and has a nasty case of kennel cough. He is, however, doing really well and is a sweet, happy little puppy. The good news is that we've got a couple coming over tonight to meet Miles and so he may be adopted before we've had him for even a week!

UPDATE: Miles has a new home! As soon as he's over his kennel cough he'll be going to live with his new family, which includes three other Labs.

Puppies heart cars

We've gotten into a new habit at our house on Saturday mornings. Me, I like to sleep in. Nic, not so much. So instead of me trying to make Nic sleep in or Nic trying to get me up (which almost always ends badly) Nic spends his Saturday mornings at his shop working on his Coronet. The only stipulation? He has to take the puppies so I can rest in peace.

Nic usually ends up getting up earlier than he does on the weekdays so he can spend as much time with his car as possible. And if the alarm isn't good enough to get him out of bed, all he has to do is ask Moxie if she wants to go to the shop and it's over, no more sleep.

What I love about Saturday mornings is how in love our dogs are with Nic's cars. No matter what else is going on, they always have to be around to inspect his work. These pictures are from last Saturday after Nic had shot a fresh coat of primer. Sup's face kills me in the second picture: He's totally ready to go for a drive.

Warm fuzzies

I know that for the last few weeks my blog has been all dogs, all the time, but I just got an e-mail from Utah Lab Rescue with an update about Dixie (our first foster Lab) and it made my heart smile.

Check out how well little Dixie dog is doing in her new home:

Here's what Dixie's family had to say:

"Thanks again for all of your help with Dixie. She is fully part of the family and our yellow Lab and son's best buddy (ours too!)."

Doesn't that just make you feel glad all over? I does me.

Bad habits

I should apologize in advance to Brownie's future adoptive family. I've taught him some bad habits, including sleeping on the couch, drinking out of the toilet, and stealing Nic's socks.

He does, however, still listen better than both of my dogs--which is super frustrating because he's a stray from the pound that I've had for only a week and I've been working on my dogs for more than two years.

Those two dogs of mine had better watch it; this little vagrant is showing them up.

Meet Brownie

It has been a week since we took Dixie to her new family and now I've picked up a new foster: Brownie.

Brownie is a stray picked up in Ogden and was nearing the end of his stay at the Ogden Animal Shelter. Another volunteer drove him down from up north and he'll stay with us until he is adopted.

He's available for adoption through Utah Lab Rescue, is sweet and loving, and is just a really good dog. Anyone want a great chocolate Lab?

Bacon Explosion

Take 1.5 pounds of bacon, weave together.

Take two pounds of Italian sausage, cover weaved bacon.

Fry a half pound of bacon, sprinkle over sausage. Add barbecue sauce. Roll sausage.

Place on a baking sheet. Cook uncovered for two hours in a 275 degree oven.

Brush outside with barbecue sauce. Slice...

...and enjoy

I couldn't not tell Nic about this recipe. So what started out as a joke passed around at work became Nic's new favorite dish. I did, however, make sure that he shared--this monstrosity contains nearly 5,000 calories and 500 grams of fat.
